    Ninety over 90s attend annual party in Ilkley

    THE annual Over 90s Party was held at the Clarke Foley Centre on Saturday, September 29, 2018. The party was first held in September 1987 and is unique in that it is the only event in the Bradford district dedicated to residents aged 90 and over. Once again there was free entertainment and afternoon tea was served to guests from Addingham, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley and Menston. HM the Queen was represented by Mr David Pearson, Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire and other honoured guests were: Ilkley Town Mayor Councillor Stephen Butler and Mrs Kate Butler, John Grogan MP, and Councillor Brian Mann and Mrs Sylvia Mann.

    MP 'very hopeful' that Keighley waste-to-energy incinerator permit will be refused

    KEIGHLEY MP John Grogan says he is “very hopeful” that an environmental permit for a controversial waste-to-energy incinerator plant in the town will be rejected. He was speaking after the Environment Agency received an application for a permit at the site, alongside the Aire Valley trunk road at Marley. “From my discussions with the agency my understanding is that the formal consultation period is likely to take place later in 2018 and a final decision could take up to a year,” said Mr Grogan.

    WHARFEDALE politicians have voiced support for headteachers who joined a national protest. Hundreds of heads from across England and Wales attended a rally in central London on Friday, September 28, to demand extra funding. Calling for an end to what they described as 'crippling cuts', they met in Parliament Square before delivering a letter to Downing Street. The heads say a real term fall in funding of eight per cent since 2010 - a figure provided by the the Institute of Fiscal Studies - has left schools struggling with bigger class sizes, staff cuts and reduced subject choices.

    There are detailed maps showing what is proposed street by street: Ilkley Parking Review Consultation.

    The deadline for submitting a response is October 13, 2018.

    PROPOSALS which could one day provide Keighley with a direct rail to Manchester were on the agenda at a special meeting in Parliament. The meeting was jointly hosted by Keighley MP John Grogan, Andrew Stephenson, the MP for Pendle, and SELRAP (the Skipton-East Lancashire Rail Action Partnership) to examine progress on this project. The gathering on September 11 was designed to give MPs from across the area a chance to be updated on a feasibility study, announced by the Department for Transport in February.

    MEMBERS of the public are being asked to have their say on draft proposals to change parking restrictions in and around Ilkley town centre. Bradford Council is proposing to adopt the recommendations of a parking review conducted by consultants, Steer Davies & Gleave but wants to know local people’s views on them before the final decision is made.
