    STEETON residents living near Airedale Hospital could soon be spared the misery of parked cars blocking their streets. Residents-only parking zones could be introduced in Thornhill Road and surrounding streets as a result of recent changes to Bradford Council rules. News of the possible respite came as a resident described how an an ambulance could not get past parked vehicles on Tuesday last week to reach a house on an emergency call. Kath Isherwood said she had to redirect paramedics along nearby streets to reach their destination. Even though the vehicles straddled payments, they were parked on both sides making the road too narrow.

    KEIGHLEY councillors said fly-tippers have “no excuse”, after new figures showed reports of this crime in Keighley and Bradford had risen dramatically. Government data shows in the 12 months to the end of March there were 14,317 reports of fly-tipping incidents across Keighley and Bradford – a jump of 17.4 per cent on the previous year. This places Bradford district second only to Leeds in the region for the number of incidents reported - and above large cities such as Sheffield.

    KEIGHLEY MP John Grogan is urging people to take part in a consultation over proposed new powers aimed at slamming the brakes on nuisance drivers on the district’s roads. Bradford Council is seeking the public’s views on the introduction of a so-called Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO). Mr Grogan says he receives complaints daily about nuisance driving in Keighley. He added: “I hope the Keighley public will respond to this consultation and urge Bradford Council to bring in these tougher powers as soon as possible.”

    KEIGHLEY MP John Grogan has called on Austria Holdings to relinquish control of Keighley Cougars. It comes followed the continued non-payment of staff and players' wages dating back to August. Yesterday was the latest in a series of missed deadlines, which has left the club in turmoil and seen head coach Craig Lingard resign in protest. Following a meeting with Rugby Football League chief executive Ralph Rimmer at the House of Commons last night, Grogan said: "I was advised that the Rugby Football League have now placed Keighley Cougars into special measures which means they cannot sign any new players.

    ILKLEY MP John Grogan is opening a constituency office in one of cottages which are adjacent to Ilkley Manor House and are now part of the Ilkley Manor House Trust. The office, which will be staffed on a part time basis, will open on Monday November 26th.
