 An MP pushing for Yorkshire to become a "country within a country" has appealed to the Archbishop of York to help end a stalemate plaguing the devolution process. John Grogan told a parliamentary debate he had written to John Sentamu and asked him to intervene and assist the 17 Yorkshire councils who are calling for the region to receive devolved powers.

KEIGHLEY MP John Grogan is backing top-level demands for Yorkshire to receive devolved powers and a £150 million annual budget. He this week called a debate in Parliament in support of 17 Yorkshire councils who are calling for a deal covering most of the county and involving a new elected mayor.

 AN ICONIC Keighley brewery has won heady praise from the town's MP. John Grogan toured Timothy Taylor's Knowle Spring site and met staff. And he had lunch at the Lord Rodney, in Church Green, with the company's chief executive Tim Dewey. The two debated a number of issues faced by the brewing and pub industry.

SHINY new Yorkshire-built buses are ready to hit the road to add some sparkle to Keighley's link to Leeds. The vehicles, manufactured by Optare, begin operating from this Sunday (October 8) on route 60, linking Keighley, Saltaire, Shipley and Leeds every 30 minutes seven days a week.
